I recently learned some important lessons from a bunny in my back yard.
A few weeks ago, we had a storm here with a lot of snow and ice.
During the storm we looked out our window and saw a bunny nestling in our garden box with the snow blustering down on it.
The next morning, the bunny was still there as still as a statue.
We were certain she had died during the night and were going to go and bury her.
But a wonderful thing happened.
As my husband John went out to take care of the sad task, the bunny hopped away, perfectly well!
A few hours later, she came and got back in her spot in the box and nestled there through the night again.
We think she liked it there because it had soft straw under the snow for her to rest in. The box also had a trellis frame over it, which we think protected her from the hawks.

She hopped away again the next morning. Her little bunny indentation is still in our box.
I was so happy that even in the midst of cold winter when our garden was dormant, our garden box could shelter her from the snow and ice and predators.
And the bunny also gave me hope, too.
She taught me that even in those moments when all seems lost, hope springs to life again.
Anyhow, that is the energy I am bringing into 2026: Empower the vulnerable; be surprised by hope.
So far, it’s working pretty well for me.
